ABOUT
Apitherapy

The American Apitherapy Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public and the healthcare community about the traditional and scientifically valid uses of Apitherapy. Our mission is to promote the utilization of bee products in therapy and medicine. We aim to provide accurate information, resources, and training to support the safe and effective use of apitherapy. Join us in our journey to explore the healing powers of bee venom, honey, propolis, royal jelly, and bee pollen.

What is Apitherapy?

Apitherapy, also known as "bee therapy" (from the Latin apis, meaning bee), is the therapeutic use of products created by honeybees to support health and healing. This evidence-based practice combines ancient wisdom with modern medical understanding, offering natural approaches to wellness under proper medical guidance.

Important: Apitherapy should always be practiced under qualified medical supervision. Individual results may vary, and bee products can cause allergic reactions in some people.

Education &

Community

The AAS offers specialized apitherapy education through our annual Charles Mraz Apitherapy Course and Conference (CMACC)—a comprehensive 3-day intensive combining classroom instruction with hands-on practical training. Led by experienced apitherapists and medical professionals, participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical confidence in bee therapy applications.

Our member network includes practitioners across the full spectrum of apitherapy—from bee venom therapy specialists to those incorporating various hive products into healing protocols. This community provides peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and real-world experience guidance for those exploring bee therapy.

Nature's Liquid Medicine

Raw, unprocessed honey has served as medicine for millennia, earning recognition from Hippocrates and major religious texts. Unlike processed sugar, honey's unique chemical composition makes it easier to digest while providing essential proteins, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.

Internal Benefits: Raw honey supports digestive health, helping with ulcers, constipation, and chronic indigestion. Research shows Manuka honey can inhibit H. pylori bacteria linked to ulcers. Its natural properties may also improve sleep, reduce inflammation, and provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial effects without stimulating insulin secretion like regular sugar.

External Applications: Honey's powerful wound-healing properties come from its hydrophilic nature, which dehydrates harmful bacteria, plus glucose oxidase enzyme that converts to hydrogen peroxide. Clinical studies show honey-treated burns and wounds heal faster with less scarring than conventional treatments. It effectively treats athlete's foot, eczema, surgical wounds, and various skin conditions.

Evidence-Based Results: In controlled studies, only 8% of burn patients treated with honey developed infections compared to 92% using standard silver sulfadiazine treatment.

Consult healthcare providers before using honey medicinally, especially for serious conditions.

Conditions Treated with Apitherapy.

This list does not imply that these conditions are cured. Apitherapy should be used alongside conventional medical care. Always consult with your healthcare provider before beginning any apitherapy approach.
